Fully virtualized homelab on my own hardware. Multiple containers and VMs for different services, with GPU passthrough for AI workloads. Saves ongoing VPS and cloud hosting costs for dozens of services.

Labrax: 3D-printed 10″ rack

A stripped laptop repurposed as a full Proxmox node, built into a self-designed and 3D-printed 10″ server rack. Repurposed hardware instead of buying a new server chassis.

Docker Stack

All web services in Docker containers via docker-compose, behind an Nginx reverse proxy and Cloudflare Tunnel, with no open ports. No monthly hosting fees for multiple sites with an external provider.

Self-hosted AI Stack

My own AI environment with GPU passthrough: local LLMs via Ollama and image generation via Stable Diffusion, reachable through a dedicated subdomain. No subscription costs for ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, or separate image generation tools.

DIY Home Security

Camera system paired with a custom control panel built from an old iPad, in a self 3D-printed enclosure. No monthly cloud storage subscription like Ring or Nest requires.

Game Servers

Seven game servers running side by side on the homelab, each with its own Cloudflare Tunnel to avoid port and connection conflicts. Saves roughly €15 to 30 per month per rented game server; with 7 servers that’s €100+ per month avoided.

ZeldaCraft Portal

Password-protected music portal for the group: password login, MP3 upload/delete via AJAX, and a live storage meter, fully self-built in PHP. No Spotify family plan or separate file sharing service needed.

Self-hosted DNS

Pi-hole for network-wide ad-blocking and internal DNS naming, with DoH upstream via Cloudflare. No paid ad blocking or DNS service subscription.

Backup System

Automated backups of all servers and data via Proxmox Backup Server and bash scripts, including successful recovery after real corruption. No paid cloud backup subscription like Backblaze.

PC & Laptop Repairs

Repaired laptops and PCs for at least 7 people, from slow systems to full hard-drive recovery without data loss. Saves clients the cost of a new device by repairing instead of replacing.

3D Printing & GrunnLab

My own 3D printer with a self-built enclosure and my own designed models. Together with my father I’m building GrunnLab, an early-stage 3D printing startup. Generates revenue rather than just cutting costs.
